SPAIN: VAT increase on unhealthy products!

Spain headed towards a healthier lifestyle.

The Spanish government informed the European commission that the VAT rate increase towards sweetened drinks will move forward in 2021. The VAT rate is scheduled to be increased from 10 to 21 percent.

The overall budget plant for 2021 has not officially being announced but Spain’s plan is to increase taxes on potentially harmful foods for people as well as foods that have a big impact on the environment.

Unhealthy product advertisements are also being looked in by the Spanish government but we will have to wait till the new Tax Package is released for their final decisions. This new measures along with the tax fraud law are estimated to bring in more than 6 billion euros for the Spanish government in 2021.
