Instruct your bank or building society to pay your VAT by Direct Debit

Use the VATC9 or Making Tax Digital VATC9 forms to tell your bank or building society to set up a Direct Debit to pay your VAT.

Complete one of these forms and send it to HMRC to tell your bank or building society to start paying your VAT by Direct Debit.

Make sure you use the correct form and give your business’s VAT registration number, or a Direct Debit will not be set up.

If you have signed up for Making Tax Digital for VAT

If your business has signed up for Making Tax Digital for VAT and only needs one signature to set up a Direct Debit, you can sign in to your VAT account and set it up online.

You should also use the Making Tax Digital VATC9 form if you previously signed up for Making Tax Digital for VAT and have opted out of using the service.

You must give your business’s VAT registration number and an email address in the ‘For HM Revenue and Customs official use only’ section of the form.

If you have not signed up for Making Tax Digital for VAT

Use the VATC9 form if your business has never signed up for Making Tax Digital for VAT.
