Switzerland: Transition to Mandatory Electronic VAT Filing Begins January 2025
The Swiss Federal Tax Administration announced details and FAQs about the new requirement for electronic filing of VAT returns, starting January 1, 2025. Key details are as follows:
- From January 1, 2025, all VAT-registered companies must file their returns online using the ePortal.
- Companies that currently submit VAT returns on paper can continue to do so until December 31, 2024, by completing a paper billing order form for each billing period.
- The final paper billing order forms will be distributed with the billing code dispatch at the end of November 2024.
- The ePortal will provide both a simplified option and a full functionality option for filing VAT returns.
