Bill No. P. 100/2022 was launched to cut GST on food products. The removal of GST is due to the current crisis in the cost of living. Raluca Kovacs, a deputy from St. Saviour and one of its ten State members, submitted a proposal to exempt food from the 5% GST.
Removing GST from food was a Reform party election platform that performed well in June, especially in town areas. It claims that GST is a regressive tax that disproportionately affects low-income people. According to the party, cutting 5% off food will benefit individuals who are suffering in the present economic circumstances.
