Greece: New VAT return rules for simple accounting taxpayers

Spread the love

The Greek Official Gazette published Decision No. A. 1049, introducing updates to VAT return submission requirements for taxpayers using the simple accounting system. The decision took effect on the date of publication.

Key provisions include:

  1. Monthly VAT returns are required for taxable persons starting operations on or after April 1 who use a simple accounting system and engage in taxable or certain tax-exempt transactions. This rule will also apply to other specified taxpayers beginning July 1.

  2. Quarterly VAT return option is available for eligible taxpayers, allowing submissions for a three-month tax period instead of monthly.

  3. Irrevocability period: Once the quarterly filing option is selected, it must be maintained for at least 12 months.

  4. Submission method: Taxpayers must declare their filing choice through the myAADE digital platform.

These updates affect filing obligations based on the taxpayer’s start date and chosen reporting period.
