The provisional application for the EU / UK trade agreement has been approved by EU ambassadors on Monday.
“EU Ambassadors have unanimously approved the provisional application of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement as of January 1, 2021,” the spokesman for the German EU Presidency Sebastian Fischer said on Twitter.
This is another step towards finalizing the agreement after 9 months of negotiations. All 27 EU governments still need to approve the trade deal on Tuesday in order to make this official.
After this UK Parliament will have to vote on the deal by the end of the year and EU Parliament must also approve the deal before the council adopts the decision.
